Build Me Up, Break Me Down

I suppose that some people don't know what the title is going to suggest. Well, I'm kind of poetic, right? Actually, this comes from Dream Theater (an American Progressive Rock band)'s song title from the album A Dramatic Turn Of Events. During this recent days, this song keeps playing in my random winamp playlist. Great song emerges by itself on the list, perhaps. First of all, let's check on the complete lyric of the song (I wrote it while I was listening, and took some from metrolyrics.com).

Build Me Up, Break Me Down.

Today, I will be a savior,
Tomorrow a demon.
You crave my erratic behavior
And watch my every move.

Obsession at all costs,
You'll be the death of me.
Broken and torn apart,
Why can't you let me be?

You build me up, you break me down
Until I'm falling to pieces.
I crash and burn, I never learn,
I'm your guilty addiction.
Build me up!
Break me down!

Today, a savior,
Tonight, I am the new messiah you deify.
When I'm no longer desired,
I'll be crucified.

The one who's free from sin,
The first to cast the stone.
Fighting the fear within,
I won't be left alone.

You build me up, you break me down
Until I'm falling to pieces.
The price I pay to live this way,
And the fantasy stays alive.
I can't live up, I can't let down
And leave you falling to pieces.
I crash and burn, I never learn,
I'm your morning obsession.
Build me up!
Break me down!

(I will be your savior)

You build me up, you break me down
Until I'm falling to pieces.
The price I pay to live this way,
And the fantasy stays alive.
I can't live up, I can't let down
And leave you falling to pieces.
I crash and burn, I never learn,
Your iconic fixation.
Build me up!
Break me down!
Build me up!
Break me down!

First thing that came into my mind when I first listened to the song was that Dream Theater has had certain changes in their music. The band still has the main core of the music pattern, but there are changes (may be more distortion in the guitars). I can hardly explain as I am not a musician. Back to the song "Build Me Up, Break Me Down", I think that this song is such an anger expression. Why? First thing that might be possible for this conclusion is the music (distortion, beat and tempo). Going further, the lyrics might also tell that there's disappointment. From the title and the phrase of the refrain, we could see that the subject is kind of being forsaken (Until I'm falling to pieces.). There seems to be something promised for the subject but then he gets nothing but disappointment of being forsaken and torn apart into pieces. Ironically, there seems to be no one(including the one expected) to save him. Regression is in him now, for not learning from the previous experiences "I crash and burn, I never learn,". Though, he has to be strong and responsible for the consequences come to him for having trusted and relied to the wrong one (the untrustworthy ally) "The price I pay to live this way,". Well, that's what I could find from the song (for now), suppose you have better understandings, please spit them in the comment box.
